Mandela and Feynman were born the same year. 1918. But while Feynman passed away in 1988, Mandela this year, it gives Mandela 25 more years to live (about 95 years old, Mandela). Thats a nearly 25% difference. What makes such wide disparity in how long people live?
On afterthoughts, (from this) statistics is a way of hiding our ignorance by allowing more and more attributes into a particular question, to the level our ignorance is no more useless. Thats the difference between science and religion: statistics. Statistics is the difference between science and religion. Religion brushes everything with one broom. Science needs various sizes for various tasks. In the end there is a difference even if its not so visible.
In my case therefore you see, 0 publications in 2001. The year I joined my PhD, I was learning more about snow-fall, JC Peney and Bus rides. 2002 I have hardly 1 or 2, that was the year when in the later half I was given the privilege of being able to sign for science papers. The next year I am already acquainted quite a bit, so signing more than 1 paper a month is no irksome involvement. I already know what I am signing it for. 20 papers a year. Then it grows to 60 papers the next year, thats papers a month, my team of 400 was producing where I have a legit share of expert contributions, through weeks of data-collection, analysis and data-mining etc. (There would be papers where I won't have legit share, .. ) The next year 2005-2006 was my peak, 70 papers, You can check my pictures from 05-06 (on f-b) and see how much I was involved in the literally tons of ways experimentalists contribute ;) No kidding not everything is visible outside the vacuum pipe, its risky) Then you can see I am gradually climbing down, but its hard enough to climb down faster because you already have a history. Becoming celebrity is a one way affair, no return. With years my direct contribution goes down but history has that which is yet to come and that shows up as bigger share in contribution. (Just like the electron's history-of-all-path must contribute towards its momenta for future) I think thats a good connection, like the electrons the Physicists are lost, they are picking on different things and survive and their history makes it bigger.
You don’t have to always criticize religion harshly. Sometimes they don’t even deserve your attention. Considering then you have a lot of time what shall ye’ do with this time?
1) Go to wall mart and hang around the vegetable section, this is the section where nobody will suspect you are not there to buy anything. Vegetable is something everybody needs howsoever smurky one looks.
2) Buy a pumpkin and carve something and upload on fb.
3) talk a few idiosyncrasies of your wife that matches with what you read in an internet celebrity corner.
4) Talk about the dark side of your besty on fb, making sure that thats not true.
A fantastic bilingual website from the state of Odisha. English and Odia. Very informative especially for entrepreneurs as the name of website speaks of: bepara.com, bepara (byapar) is Odia for transactions/business. Here is a fantastic article written in Odia which I am translating partly to English. I am also appending the article as-it-is in Odia script, as its a valuable and interesting article by the title “Some simple rules”
Source and rights with: http://bepara.com/965/
“Some simple rules”
Rule of 72; An estimate of period by which capital gets doubled. “Annual compound interest rate” = 9% the 72/9 = 8th year gives “Capital doublization period”.
Rule of 114; Divide by 114, the interest rate (as above, compound interest rate) to get “Capital triplization period” (triplication)
Rule of 144; this gives like above period by which capital gets quadrupled (4 times “original capital” in 144/annual-compound-interest-rate)
Rule of 70; In how many days inflation can half your capital, is obtained by dividing instantaneous/current-inflation-rate by 70. (applied towards pension schemes)
